     TRAINING INFORMATION

FIRE TRAINING

All Firefighters must initially complete a 180 hour Firefighter Level 1 training course held at a State approved Fire Academy.

However, a firefighter's training does not end there! It is critical that every firefighter stay current on training, to learn new skills, and practice old ones.

The Surf City Fire Company holds at least one in town fire drill per month, as well as various mutual aid and live burn evolutions at the Ocean County Fire Academy, under the direction of Assistant Chief Michael Wolfschmidt. It is his goal that every firefighter attend every training opportunity available, to better serve the public, and that every firefighter stay safe in order to go home to their family after a fire call.
E.M.S. TRAINING

All Emergency Medical Technicians (E.M.T.) must initially complete a 120 hour EMT Basic Training course, held by a State approved agency.

However, an EMT's training does not end there! State laws mandate EMT's must complete a certain amount of State approved training hours every 3 years to keep up their certification. It is also critical that every EMT stay current on training to learn new skills, and maintain old ones.

The Surf City Fire Company E.M.S. holds at least one drill per month, under the direction of Assistant Chief Hank Schlekser. It is his goal that every EMT have the best training to provide the very best patient care possible.

FIRE POLICE TRAINING

All Fire Police personel must initially complete a 12 hour training course held by a State approved agency.

However, Fire Police training does not end there! It is important that personel stay current on training, and how to stay safe when operating at an Emergency Incident.

Fire Police refresher courses are held periodically under the direction of Captain Alan Mannherz.
