We are a 100% All Volunteer organization, our members are your friends and neighbors, and come from all walks of life. They are, for example, Real Estate Agents, Plumbers, Teachers, Students, and Retired persons.
Volunteer Firefighters and Emergency Medical Technicians (E.M.T.) are especially needed right now. We are particularly looking for young people to join, because you are our organization’s future! We ask any willing and capable person of good moral character, that lives or works in Surf City or North Beach, to please take that extra step to give back to your community by volunteering with us. No prior experience is necessary and training will be provided at no cost to you.
As a Surf City volunteer firefighter and or E.M.T., you will be challenged to learn new skills which will prepare you for firefighting, motor vehicle rescue operations, and emergency medical calls, among other specialties. Any and all of these skills will allow you to serve your neighbors in the community and experience a successful, exciting and rewarding lifestyle which comes from helping others in times of emergency. Whether it’s a house fire, motor vehicle accident, medical emergency, or storm related emergency, the fire company is called upon to assist those in need.
In addition, residents between the ages of 14 to 17, can join the fire company’s Junior program. Junior firefighters participate in almost every aspect of training and respond in a support role at actual emergency incidents, assisting the fire company’s firefighters and E.MT’s. Upon reaching the age of 18, they become eligible to serve as a volunteer firefighter and or E.M.T. with the company.
Yes, firefighting and Emergency Medical Services is hard work and demanding, with hours of training involved and a personal commitment to respond to emergency calls on a moment’s notice. However, there is a huge payoff which few jobs can match! It comes from the newly found pride and confidence in yourself, new skills learned and being part of a select, hard working team of dedicated people serving their community and making a difference in the lives of your fellow residents. Being a volunteer firefighter and or E.M.T. is also a chance to form lasting friendships and have fun with people who share a common goal.
Another one of the great benefits of becoming a Firefighter or E.M.T. is our L.O.S.A.P (Length of Service Awards Program), in which you can earn up to approximately $1,200 per year for active participation in the company, which is similar to a 401K retirement savings plan.
